SELOM

aka Oenanthe javanica, Java waterdropwort


GROW

Propagate : seed or cuttings

Light : Sunny

Water : 3-4 times a day (Grow best in pots of water too)

Soil : good drainage

Fertilizer : not necessary


USES

Selom was once a staple of Malay diets, freshly harvested leaves and stems were often served with a mix of Ulam raja, Pegaga or Tenggek burung as ulam. If you are a food lover, you should not miss the Northern Laksa orLaksa Utarain Peninsular Malaysia. The dish is normally presented together with fresh leaves of Selom. Other than that, the tender stems and leaf stalks of Selom are used fresh as salad, to garnish steamed rice and other dishes, or boiled and chopped as greens.


Diarrhoea: Add 10 of the leaves in 2 cups of water, boil for 15mins and drink while hot.


Diabetes: Take a 6-8 leaves and steep in boiling water till its room temperature. Drink at least twice a day before meals.
